34-year-old Cody Lyman of Salt Lake City has been sentenced to 135 years in prison after being convicted of child sex crimes. Lyman used Snapchat to meet his victims.
Lyman was convicted on 27 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and three counts of sodomy on a child. He had four victims ranging in age from 7 to 14. Lyman is said to have used Snapchat to obtain explicit images from his victims and also used it to arrange in-person meetings with them.
Prosecutors asked for the 135-year sentence saying that Lyman showed no remorse for his crimes. Lyman’s attorneys asked for 30 years.
Utah Judge Keith Kelly sided with the prosecution and sentenced Lyman to 135 years saying…
“You’re a predator. You used children for your own gratification. You used technology. You hunted these children. You targeted them. You groomed them.”
Normally I post about predators being sentenced to a long time in prison, but that story dates back to 2017. What I’m actually here to tell you about is that Lyman has lost his appeal.
Lyman appealed his conviction on the grounds that his attorney rendered ineffective counsel and that the sentence was excessive and disproportionate to the crimes. The Utah Court of Appeals rejected both of those claims.
Utah: 1, Cody Lyman: 0.
