Devon Erickson

I originally wrote about the STEM school shooting in Highlands Ranch, Colorado here. In May of 2019, two students opened fire at the STEM School Highlands Ranch, killing one student and wounding eight others. The two shooters were 18-year-old Devon Erickson and then 16-year-old Alec McKinney. McKinney, who is transgender, was tried as an adult.

Last week, Erickson was convicted of all 46 charges against him, including first degree murder. He faces a mandatory life sentence. McKinney previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison.

At the time of the shooting, much was made about the fact that one of the students who was killed, 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo, charged one of the shooters in order to give his classmates time to escape. His bravery should never be forgotten.
