Clients charged in Missoula Craigslist prostitution ring:

I originally posted about the Missoula, Montana child prostitution ring here. At that time 30-year-old, Richard A. Carpita and 21-year-old Anthony J. Brazington were charged with running a craigslist prostitution ring that had girls ages 16-19 working for them.

This past week the johns that were allegedly involved in the ring were charged with prostitution, a misdemeanor.

That’s the problem with trying to stop prostitution and human trafficking. The demand part of the equation, the johns, get little to no punishment whatsoever. In order to truly be serious about child prostitution and human trafficking, these charges need to be made into felonies. Like I’ve said so many times before if you cut off the demand there will be no need for a supply.

  1. Last week the U.S. unanimously passed the Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking and Victims Support Act. But it looks like it is going to die in the House of Representatives this week because they don’t think it is important enough to pass the first-ever law that specifically protects child sex trafficking victims in the U.S. H.R. 5575 would fund six shelters for children, among other things. Hundreds of thousands of American and foreign children in the United States victims of sex trafficking, but only 50 to 75 shelter beds available, nationwide. This law would have helped provide protection for these kids.
This is one last plea to ask for help from everyone who cares about the protection of children from sex trafficking. Contact your member of Congress and ask them to support H.R. 5755. It’s seems like a no-brainer to those of us who work in this field, protection for kids who are sold for sex shouldn’t be optional, but mandatory.

  2. You can’t stop prostitution by making a felony, it’s already been tried and failed. You just make everybody’s life more miserable than it was before.

If your goal is to make a safer world then it should be legalized.
