After Joe Paterno: Enough Already With Child Sexual Abuse Hysteria (Updated):

This is a blog post from the Miami New Times which is a Village Voice Media-owned publication. The author of the post uses the recent child molestation scandal at Penn State University to say that reports of the sexual abuse of children in this country are nothing more than hysteria.

If that wasn’t bad enough after their post was published they went back and removed part of the post which referred to their own embattled backpage.com.

This post came to my attention through my Google News alerts for anything Backpage related. Here is a screenshot of how it appeared in my e-mail.

In case you can’t make it out it says…

This comes on top of a months-long campaign by religious groups, and attorneys general against the owner of the newspaper, Village Voice Media, over complaints that Backpage.com, which we also own, abets child sex trafficking. …

So not only do they called child sex abuse hysteria they tried to use the Penn State scandal to post further propaganda about their website that traffics in women and children.

Does anybody think that the Village Voice Media publications have any shred of journalistic integrity anymore?

  1. No Trench, not a shred!  This is repulsive.  They clearly don’t care how many children are hurt for them to make a buck.

  2. This statement is so disgusting it leaves me speechless… o.O

Not only is the author playing down the severity of child abuse, but he USES (or better to say TWISTS) it to rectify the semi-criminal conduct of his own employer…

    Ever heard of journalistic ethics?!?!

I have to confess, I never used Craigslist / Backpage.com before reading this blog, and I surely never will now. Lucky me!

But I know a LOT about human trafficking, because I have researched the topic for years. And if those platforms aren’t highly enabling organs in an already sickly organized system of criminal abuse, I don’t know what they are.

    1. Whatever journalistic ethics Village Voice Media ever had have since been tainted by using their publications to defend their atrocious business practices.

      1. Yes, you are absolutely right.

I just can’t grasp the amount of their depravity…
They really made a deal with the devil.

I was even more shocked when I read their reaction on the open letter the clergy wrote. Shouldn’t they at least be worried about their image, if nothing else?!

I know that lawyers can be ambidextrous, but the legal department of VVM surely takes the cake.

I applaud you for your “crusade” and hope that you will reach many people in the future as you reached me. :o)

        1. They really do remind me of Baghdad Bob. He was the spokesman for Saddam Hussein who kept saying everything was fine as the US tanks rolled past him.
