In September of 2017, 15-year-old Sam Strahan brought a gun to Freeman High School in Rockford, Washington, and shot and killed fellow student Caleb Sharpe. Strahan had previously warned Sharpe that he was going to bring a gun to school. On the day of the shooting, Sharpe reportedly told Strahan to “just do it already” which is when Strahan shot him. Strahan was also said to have been bullied by other students, but no evidence of bullying by Sharpe has ever been presented.

Strahan was charged as an adult back in 2018, but defense attorneys appealed the decision. Yesterday, that appeal was denied, and Strahan will continue to be tried as an adult.

However, there is a catch. Due to a recent Washington State Supreme Court ruling, Strahan cannot receive life without the possibility of parole. This means that even if Strahan is convicted of first-degree murder, he will eventually be eligible for parole. It will be interesting to see how this case unfolds in the coming months.
