52-year-old Alan J. Beaty of Galesburg, Illinois is accused of soliciting an 11-year-old girl on Facebook for sex from nearby Kewanee, Illinois. Beaty was also said to be allegedly sending explicit images to the girl and tried to arrange a meeting with the child. Personally, I’d love to know the story behind the mugshot, but I digress.

In a perfect world, no child would have to worry about being harassed on the internet but this world is far from perfect. If you allow an 11-year-old to be online without any supervision, disturbing incidents like this will continue to happen. Even by Facebook’s own terms of service, users aren’t supposed to be any younger than 13. Basically, what I am saying is that 11-year-old have no business being on Facebook.
