47-year-old Jason Payne of Topeka, Kansas has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography. Payne is a teacher at Topeka High School. He was arrested after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received tips about child porn being uploaded from an account linked to Payne.
According to court documents, investigators found over 3,000 images and over 1,000 videos of child pornography on devices seized from Payne. Among those devices were a laptop, two tablets, two USB drives, and a cell phone.
While the sheer volume of child porn found on Payne’s devices is disturbing, some of the content is even more disturbing. Some of the alleged child porn found on Payne’s devices depicted children as young as infants.
Payne has since been placed on administrative leave by the Topeka school district. Since his arrest, other parents have come forward with concerns about Payne. No word yet on whether or not any of Payne’s students were among his alleged victims.
It can’t be stated enough that child pornography is not a victimless crime. Every image or video of child pornography represents a real child who was sexually abused. There are real children out there who have had to endure unimaginable horror so that men like Payne could satisfy their sick desires. The demand for child pornography fuels the abuse and trafficking of children.
