A Florida man named Otoniel Carlos O’Valle, aka Oto, was arrested after allegedly pulling a gun on a substitute school bus driver. Apparently some people have decided that basic adult communication is just too complicated.
According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at a school bus stop after O’Valle approached the driver, pulled a handgun from his waistband, and asked if she was the regular driver. Once he found out she wasn’t, he reportedly told her it was her “lucky day” before putting the gun away
O’Valle allegedly complained that the regular driver had reprimanded his children in the past. Nothing says “concerned parent” quite like threatening someone with a gun before breakfast.
Authorities later reviewed the bus video and audio, which allegedly backed up the driver’s story. Police eventually tracked him down and arrested him on charges that include aggravated assault on a public transit employee and possession of a firearm on school property because, in Florida, the bus stop counts as an extension of school grounds.
Did I mention that this happened in front of kids? Adults are supposed to spend time lecturing children about gun safety, responsibility, and treating guns like dangerous weapons instead of toys. Then some assclown rolls up to a school bus stop waving a pistol around because his feelings got hurt over a bus driver disciplining his kids.
How exactly are children supposed to take guns seriously when grown men are using them like emotional support accessories during routine school discipline disagreements?
The substitute bus driver in this story probably expected confusion about pickup times or maybe one kid trying to sneak a vape pen onto the bus. Instead, she got threatened by Dollar Store Tony Soprano because his children got scolded.
Naturally, there are people online defending this kind of behavior with the usual ‘Well, we don’t know the whole story’ routine. Unless the missing context involves the bus driver being a secret velociraptor, there is no version of reality where flashing a gun at a school bus stop becomes a reasonable parenting technique. You are an adult. Use your words. Maybe try acting like someone who should legally possess a gun in the first place. Instead of, you know, a ‘responsible gun owner’™.
Also, while making fun of somebody’s appearance is admittedly low-hanging fruit, every time one of these stories comes out, I end up thinking the same thing. If this guy can find a partner and have children, then the internet’s army of miserable incels really needs to stop pretending dating is some impossible cosmic injustice. Apparently the bar is buried somewhere near the Earth’s molten core, and people are still clearing it.
