Zackari H. Parrish III

You may remember the name Zackari Parrish. In December of 2017, Deputy Zackari Parrish of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was shot and killed by Matthew Riehl, a mentally ill man who had previously threatened police. I wrote about this incident here.

Now, a Texas police officer has been charged with being an administrator in a Kik child pornography group. 28-year-old Haltom City, Texas police officer Joshua Jaynes was charged with possessing and distributing child pornography after an investigation found that he was allegedly an administrator of a Kik child porn group. In such groups, members share child porn with each other.

According to investigators, Jaynes used an anonymous tip to report a child porn group on Kik to police. However, investigators say they found that Jaynes himself was allegedly an admin in the group. This is according to a Star-Telegram report.

If convicted, Jaynes faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison.

The connection to Deputy Parrish is that Jaynes was the officer who shot and killed Parrish’s murderer, Matthew Riehl. While Jaynes was celebrated as a hero at the time, it appears that Jaynes had a much darker side.

This is why it’s so difficult for many people to blindly trust authority figures, especially in the aftermath of several high profile incidents of police brutality.
