The San Diego Mosque Shooting Was an Attempted School Shooting, and Here’s Why

It’s long past midnight here in Kansas, and we just got through a pretty brutal tornado watch. I was not planning on writing about the shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, where three people were murdered before the two teenage suspects killed themselves nearby. Then I started reading deeper into the story, and the ADHD part of my lizard brain wouldn’t let me rest until I made this post.

The more details that came out, the more this stopped looking like ‘just’ another hate crime shooting and started looking like something even more familiar to me. The mosque also contained a school, a K-12 school known as Bright Horizon Academy. Children were inside the building when the attack happened. Thankfully they were evacuated safely, but as far as I’m concerned, this belongs in the same category as the attack at Annunciation Catholic School last year. If the two assclown suspects had managed to get further inside the campus, does anybody seriously think they would have stopped at the adults?

Speaking of the suspects, police say they were 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Vazquez. Authorities say they opened fire outside the mosque Monday morning, killing three men, including a security guard who reportedly saved lives before the gunmen were later found dead in their vehicle from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. You know, the coward’s way out.

The murdered security guard was said to be a father of eight. Other reports say two school staffers were also among those killed. The Islamic Center is the largest mosque in San Diego County and also houses a school where children study Arabic and Islamic studies. Video from the scene showed kids being evacuated hand-in-hand while armed officers flooded the area.

What pisses me off even more is that police were already looking for the suspects before the shooting started. According to the San Diego Police Chief, one of the suspect’s mothers called authorities hours earlier because her son was suicidal, had disappeared with another teenager dressed in camouflage, and had stolen her guns, as in multiple, along with her car.

For Christ’s sake, people, lock up your fucking guns!!!

Seriously, how many more fucking times are we going to do this? Every damn massacre in this country seems to begin with some teenager casually raiding the family arsenal like they are grabbing snacks from the fridge.

Three guns were reportedly taken from the home. Police immediately realized this was potentially bigger than a standard runaway situation because suicidal teenagers do not usually take multiple firearms unless they are planning to hurt other people too.

Authorities say Islamophobic writings and hate rhetoric were discovered during the investigation. One report says hate speech was literally written on one of the firearms. Investigators also reportedly found writings about racial pride and other extremist material connected to the suspects. The shooting is being investigated as a hate crime. And before anyone says, “Aren’t all crimes hate crimes?”, shut the fuck up.

And before somebody starts pretending California is some magical leftist utopia where this could never happen, let’s stop with that nonsense right now. There are massive swaths of hardcore Republicans throughout California. Rural California can get extremely deep red, and Southern California has been marinating in right-wing rhetoric for decades. The state has plenty of extremists. They just get ignored because everybody thinks of Los Angeles and San Francisco whenever California gets mentioned.

Naturally, FBI Director Kash ‘Mortgage Eyes’ Patel rushed out statements promising no stone would be left unturned. Fantastic. Will that happen before or after somebody extracts him from his hangover bunker after drinking all night with the World Rodeo Champion?

This is the same FBI leadership that already faceplanted multiple high-profile investigations recently. Remember the chaos around the killing connected to Charlie Kirk, when Patel said they had the suspect and they didn’t?

Then there was the Brown University shooting fiasco where, again, the person of interest was not the guy who committed the shootings.

So, please forgive me if I don’t suddenly feel reassured because a guy who sounds like he should be hosting a podcast called The Tactical Whiskey Hour says they are on the case.

Meanwhile, you already know what is coming next. The “transvestigators” are absolutely going to latch onto this story because Cain Clark was on his school’s wrestling team, and some of the photos floating around online make him look younger and more androgynous than the average teenage boy. Like these.

These trans-obsessed freaks cannot process any tragedy anymore without immediately turning it into some bizarre conspiracy about trans people, even when there is absolutely no evidence for any of it. It is a mental disease at this point.

Then there’s the tangerine-tinged sex criminal known as President Donald Trump. He called the attack a “terrible situation,” which, sure, is technically true. But let’s stop pretending these kinds of suspects appear in a vacuum. The rhetoric poisoning young men online is not coming from nowhere. I would lay money that these two were radicalized by some online right-wing grifter or the increasingly unhinged “True Crime Community,” where white supremacist garbage is disguised as edgy entertainment.

Not to mention the whole thing eerily fits parts of the Columbine dynamic too. Two young male shooters with suicidal ideations draped in militaristic clothing along with hate-filled writings. There were also friends of the suspects insisting they were ‘good kids’ who seemed normal.

That script gets repeated after almost every one of these attacks because people still desperately want to believe violent extremists always look like monsters ahead of time. Most of the time they just look like awkward teenagers until they decide to leave a body count behind.

Again, I’m classifying this as a school shooting. I don’t care whether the primary target was the mosque itself or not. There was a functioning school inside that building with children present during the attack. If these idiots had made it further inside, this would have been a much different story.

More details will probably come out over the next several days, especially regarding the suspects’ online activity, possible radicalization, and how they obtained access to the weapons. I’ll post more once additional information becomes available.
